Four pillars of sustainable economic development
Guiding Principles/Values
These 7 Guiding Principles are key to how we do our work. They guide our behaviours, decision-making and communication processes and form the basis of a Code of Ethics, which is for everyone connected with NEDC.
-
Working for the community and giving back
NEDC acts in the interest of all Snaw Naw As band members, both current and future, to create a better quality of life for our people through economic development. Maintaining a long-term focus, we strive to invest in positive social and environmental projects that enrich and enhance our way of life. NEDC will inspire, support and encourage youth and community entrepreneurs to experience their full potential through support, training, and employment opportunities.
-
Working together as a community
As a corporation, we must listen to the guidance of our elders and ensure that our culture and values as Snaw Naw As Mustimuxw are embedded into everything we do. The NEDC will strive to demonstrate integrity, compassion and patience in all our interactions and endeavors. We will strive to ensure that all community members feel that they have their voice within the company as we move toward our economic future together.
-
Respect and Trust
NEDC will show trust and respect in all interactions, both within the community and out. In all business activities employees will demonstrate patience, humility, and resiliency and be considerate of how our actions will affect our community, and the environment as an interconnected whole.
-
Communication
The NEDC will respect and encourage dialogue between community members, chief and council, and the band office on the operations of the company. Through inclusive, frequent and meaningful information sharing updates, members will be informed of the operation and current direction of the company. NEDC values constructive criticism and will work to encourage regular input from all people of Snaw Naw As, trusting that the community knows what is best for their future.
-
Responsible Decision Making
NEDC practices principled decision making that is sustainable, transparent, fair and accountable. At NEDC we gather, assess, and evaluate all information before making informed decisions. Keeping Snaw Naw As values and beliefs as a priority, we promise to not act with bias, to give all members the opportunity to be heard, and to include all relevant and factual information in each decision making process.
-
Commitment & Discipline to Contribute What You Can Where You Are.
Celebrating in our shared goal to govern ourselves and build an entrepreneurial environment for youth, we promise to show how to be leaders, and not just tell. NEDC is committed to honoring self-discipline and strong work ethic in all aspects of our organization. While respecting for all things, including our need for self-discipline balanced with self-care, we promise to remain active in our pursuit for success. Our goal to empower Snaw Naw As people, while creating a sustainable and profitable company will always be in our forefront.
-
Innovation and Learning
Dream big! At NEDC we encourage and support goal setting and believe there is a new opportunity to make positive change around every corner. By constantly remaining open to change, opportunities and asking for help when we need it, we learn, grow and succeed. We take comfort in trustful relationships that celebrate learning and success through taking big steps that sometimes means learning from failure, however, we always try again, giving and taking second chances. In our hearts, we hold our dreams, Snaw Naw As teachings, and our creative spark that we nurture and celebrate as individuals, community members and colleagues.
